Treatment Approaches

  • Trauma-Informed Therapy

CBT, MI, IFS and MBCT are applied using a trauma-informed approach which provides safety and choice to clients within a collaborative therapeutic relationship by sharing power with the counselor regarding one’s treatment. With trauma-informed care, counselors are clear, honest and consistent with boundaries to promote trust. Client empowerment is a guiding principle of trauma-informed care that is accomplished via validation and affirmation of one’s experiences and processes.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT is used to alter thinking patterns by identifying maladaptive, inaccurate, unhelpful, and/or faulty cognitive processes. By identifying distorted thinking patterns, this creates awareness of one’s own internal processes. By creating awareness of internal processes, positive and effective cognitive and behavioral change can commence.

  • Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

MBCT uses physiological practices such as breathing, body scanning, muscle relaxation, movement, meditation, guided imagery, and more; to reduce tension, stress, anxiety, and/or depression. MBCT is based on the concept of creating body and mind awareness separate from one’s thoughts and emotions. This creates a greater awareness of self.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS approach entails working with the inner parts of an individual, and of one’s core self. Parts language is used to identify and heal protective and wounded parts. Parts language refers to the different parts within each of us; for example, if a part of you has ever felt angered and another part of you felt ashamed or guilty for feeling angry; IFS would work with these conflicting parts to form congruency between our inner and outer self.

  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)

MI is a gentle non-threatening approach that guides the individual to find motivation to solicit a positive behavior change. MI targets ambivalence by meeting the individual where they are at, rolling with resistance and supporting self-efficacy towards positive change.
